Prescription Drug Overdose Prevention

This Prescription Drug Overdose Prevention (PDO) program distributes Naloxone (brand name Narcan), an overdose reversal medication, to those at-risk of opioid overdose. Services include training in overdose response using Naloxone. Training of staff within organizations to train the high risk populations that they interact with such as the UNM Hospital Emergency Department, local opioid treatment programs, the Albuquerque and Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue Departments, and Healthcare for the Homeless. The PDO program also distributes naloxone to those at needle exchange programs and other outreach programs serving the IV user population.

The PDO coalition, called the Harm Reduction Strategy Group, meets the third Tuesday of every month at 2:30 PM.
