Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF-Rx)

Prescription Opioids

The Strategic Prevention Framework is a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) model designed to organize a community-based approach to engage in a public health issue facing a community. In this case the issue is the opioid overdose epidemic.

SPFRx engages community to help reduce opioid overdose by:

1) Reducing Retail Access to opioids by encouraging safe opioid prescribing practices and continued medical education opportunities for prescribing providers

2) Reducing Social Access by educating the community on safe opioid storage utilizing lock boxes and the safe disposal of opioids using Deterra (check spelling) bags and participating in Drug Take Back Days, and communicating the dangers of sharing of medications.
