Why Pharmacies Matter

Pharmacies are often the last stop before prescription medications enter the home. We work directly with pharmacies to:

  • Promote safe prescribing and dispensing

  • Educate customers about risks, storage, and disposal

  • Reduce unsafe access to unused medications

What We Do

  • Partner with local pharmacies across Bernalillo County

  • Support Prescription Drug Take Back Day events

  • Distribute medication safety materials (lockboxes, disposal education, flyers)

  • Promote use of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP)

Take Back Day Impact

Through our pharmacy partnerships, we help remove unused and unwanted medications from homes — reducing the risk of misuse, accidental poisoning, and diversion.

At our October 2025 Take Back Day event, over 200 pounds of medication were safely collected, helping reduce the risk of accidental poisoning, misuse, and other preventable harms in the community.

How Pharmacies Can Get Involved

  • Display educational materials

  • Partner on medication safety outreach

  • Host or co-host a Take Back Day event
